The family of Tanesha Melbourne-Blake have returned to the scene where she was fatally shot – one week on from the tragedy.

About 20 members of the teenager’s friends and family stood quietly in prayer on Chalgrove Road, Tottenham, paying tribute to the 17-year-old schoolgirl.

She was shot dead on the residential street on Easter Monday and became the 48th murder victim in London this year.

As the rain came down, her friends laid fresh flowers to scores of bouquets already in place.

One friend who did not want to be named said she spoke to Tanesha on the day she died.

She said: “She had been talking about her 18th birthday. We were talking about work and what she might do.

“This wasn’t meant to happen. She was such a good girl.”

Before the family arrived, Sandra, a mother of a 16-year-old girl, who lives nearby, said: “This is absolutely heartbreaking.

“A mother having her child taken away is just so painful – we need children to understand the word of God, ‘Thou shalt not commit murder’.

The silence on the street was broken by the sound of Ironik’s Stay With Me.

Around a dozen police officers spent more than two hours in the quiet road near Northumberland Park station handing out leaflets in a bid to flush out fresh information.

Police believe that shots were fired from a vehicle into a group of people, hitting Tanesha.

Detectives are working to establish the type of car and how many people were both in the vehicle and within the group shot at, and say they are keeping an open mind about the motive for the attack.

The day after the shooting, Tanesha’s mother laid flowers at the scene.

A card said: “To my baby Nesha. I’m gonna miss you so much, you’re always gonna be with me everywhere I go.”

On Friday a 30-year-old man was arrested in Hackney on suspicion of murder but has since been released under investigation.
