Health chiefs have condemned “another mindless act of vandalism” against staff after an ambulance window was smashed as a young child was being treated inside.
North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) issued photographs of the damage which showered shards of glass on the floor of the vehicle and the damaged window.
The organisation tweeted: “Another mindless act of vandalism against our staff. An object was thrown and shattered a window. Our technician and a children’s nurse were covered in shards of glass. Fortunately no injuries were sustained!”

In a statement about the incident in Salford, NWAS said: “The vast majority of the time we are treated with the greatest respect by the public and our patients but on occasion we have found ourselves subject to mindless vandalism.
“What may seem like a prank can have serious implications to the ambulance service. Not only could it cost a huge amount of money in repair bills, it can put vital vehicles off the road meaning they are unable to be used to respond to emergencies and can even endanger our staff and patients.
“We will always work with our police colleagues to report acts of vandalism which can result in serious punishments for offenders.”
