Ouaisné road facing closure

The long-awaited work to Mont du Ouaisné was originally supposed to take place in 1999 but had to be indefinitely delayed because of a row over access. It is likely that the hill will have to be closed for several weeks while the work is completed, cutting off a number of homes and the Smugglers Inn.The only alternative access is through nearby private estate Les Ruisseaux.

However, in 1999 the parish was unable to gain unanimous permission from householders for vehicle access for the Ouaisné residents. The problem has not been solved but the resurfacing work has acquired a degree of urgency.

The hill has not been resurfaced for almost 45 years.Parishioners this week agreed to set aside the money to fund the work, which will take place either at the end of the year or early in 2004.

It will take several weeks and is likely to cost up to £120,000.
