Mr Jeune, who was one of the Island’s most senior politicians for many years, is also a prominent member of the Methodist Church and is opposed to casino gambling.
He said that on the last occasion the States debated a casino in Jersey, his opposition helped to defeat the proposal.
‘Apart from the moral arguments against the promotion of gambling, I also have concerns about the damage a casino could do to the Island’s image abroad.’
