J17 goes up for auction . . . and it may fetch £30,000

It is expected that bids could reach as high as £30,000, but buyers will be less interested in the motorcycle than they will be in the numberplate of the 1960s bike.For the registration which is up for grabs at next Wednesday’s auction is J17.

And the reason for the sale is that the owner wants to fund a bid for a single-digit J-number.Auctioneer Graham Lay of Bonhams declined to say who was putting the Mobylette up for auction, but it is possible that the owner’s name will be revealed after the sale has been completed.
