He wants capital spending levels capped at £40m per year instead of a planned £48m over the next five years.Mr Crowcroft contends that the States deficit by 2008 could be £14m higher than projections put forward by Policy and Resources in the States Resource Plan.He has already proposed that the cost of the public-sector workforce be reduced by ten per cent and this is his latest move to get the States to ‘live within its means’ before sanctioning any new taxes. The other project that could face delay is the Belle Vue residential home if Mr Crowcroft’s proposal to charge P & R to revise capital spending plans at a £40m annual ceiling is accepted.

He is proposing even greater curbs on government spending than the measures included in the Resource Plan.
