The 16 lb fish of kings is believed to be a new Island record.Richard Fleetwood was out with his father in Jailor’s Passage off Corbière when the fish started nibbling at the live sand eel at the end of his line.’To begin with, it bit like a three-pounder,’ said 13-year-old Richard.

‘Then it really went over and I struck it and as the rod bent it really started taking line out.’Twice the fish dived to the bottom and Richard thought he might lose it as the line threatened to snag on the reef.

But after a 15-minute, nail-biting battle, the fish came into view and just about fitted into Richard’s landing net at around 4 pm on Wednesday.
