States tighten up their budgets

There will be further belt-tightening among departments as a result of the Resource Plan 2004, which was approved largely unamended, by 38 votes to six.

The States must, in future, produce balanced budgets and will not be allowed to spend more than they receive in tax receipts.The Resource Plan stated:Revenue expenditure should not increase by more than three per cent per year.2004 cash limits of £402 million for the non-trading committees.The capital programme should not exceed £48 million until 2008.
