Jersey soldier hurt in car bomb attack

Daniel Chevalier (20) is understood to have fractured his hand after the bomb was detonated at the entrance of the Shaibah logistics base in the British-controlled south of the country.

His vehicle is believed to have missed the full force of the blast and he was injured while helping other soldiers escape from a damaged vehicle that had been closer to the explosion.

In all nine soldiers were injured in the attack.

None of the injuries were life threatening although one soldier was flown to nearby Kuwait for further treatment.

The soldiers were all members of the 2nd Battalion, The Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment.
