Murray had a walkover in the Western Counties competition and goes straight to the quarter-final stages on 19 February in Dorset.
Welterweight Paul Young, meanwhile, lost on a close points decision in a tough SW semi-final bout against Rob Waterman of Camborne/Redruth after beating Jeremy Houston (Portland) on points in the quarter-final.
Super heavyweight Dave Lund did not travel to Cornwall with his clubmates as his opponent withdrew from competition the night before, so he travels to Frome, Somerset on Friday 4 February, to box former ABA finalist Ben Harding.
Sailing: The Laser sailing trials were completed at the weekend, with David Carter finishing top in both the Radial and Standard categories.
He has opted to compete in the NatWest Island Games in Shetland in the radial rig category with Martin Speller while Jeff Speller and Joel Lucas will compete in the standard category.
The sail team is the same as that which won a bronze medal in the 2003 Games in Guernsey.
Badminton: Jersey’s Elizabeth Cann and Solenn Pasturel, currently ranked three and eight respectively in English badminton, went head-to-head in the final of the Yorkshire Elite Open competition yesterday.
Cann won 11-5, 11-4.

DUATHLON: Tim Rogers, Sam Cooper and Andy Kemp took first, second and third places respectively in yesterday’s duathlon held at Les Platons.
In the ladies’ race Norma Mahony took first place, followed by Jenny O’Brien and Sam Horsfall.
The race comprised a 4 km run, 20 km bike ride and a final 4 km run and was organised by the Jersey Triathlon Club and sponsored by Pedal Power.
MOTORCYCLE TRIALS: Class winners in the Jersey Motor Cycle and Light Car Club trials held at Les Geonnais yesterday were: Adult: Class A, Glen Hamel; Class B+, Anthony Pallot; Class B, John Renouf; Class C, Andy Jeanne.

MOUNTAIN BIKES: Junior Commonwealth time trial and road race cyclist Richard Tanguy finished third in the Elite class of the CCC Mark Pickford’s Winter Mountainbike series race five held at Val de la Mare yesterday.
Kieron Mills was again first in class and Robin Ovenden second.
Gary Osbourne won the Sports class, ahead of Paul Le Breton and Jon Coote, and Bruce Dingle again topped the Veteran class.
Colin Malzard and Michael Boarer were second and third respectively.
Caroline Davies pipped Janet Gallichan in the Ladies class while the one, two, three in the Schoolboy class were Rhys Hidrio, Rikki Knowlton and Matthew Coote.
CLAY PIGEON: The winner of Class A and High Gun in Crabbé Clay Pigeon Club’s 50-bird shoot held yesterday was Ashley Le Sech with a total 46 ex 50.
BADMINTON: The Jersey County badminton team defeated Sussex 2nds by 8 matches to 7 in their opening National Inter-County Championship fixture on Sunday in Sussex.
SWIMMING: Three new club records were posted by Katie Speller, Alice Huelin and Elliott Sweet in the Jersey Swimming Club Championship Series II event held at Langford yesterday, Speller won the girls 800m freestyle in a new personal best time with Robin Johnson winning the boys open.
In the 13-and-under girls event Natalie Le Cuirot was first with Huelin first in the girls 11-and-under, both junior swimmers recording significant improvements on previous times in the event.
Sweet, in the 13-and- under boys, placed first ahead of Martin Perkins while newcomer James Walwyn impressed in the 11-and-under boys, taking over a minute and a half off his previous submitted time.
