Beer goes up in price

The Ann Street Pub Company, part of the Channel Islands Traders Group, has announced a price rise of 7p on imported beers and 11p on local brews.

Their announcement follows the news last week that staff have been made redundant at the company and that the future of every one of their 52 pubs is under review.

Ann Street managing director Ed Daubeney said that the price rises that will take effect from today were not linked to the cost-cutting exercise.

He added that they were absorbing a proportion of the higher costs that were being passed on from suppliers.

He said: ‘We tried hard to keep this to a minimum.

‘We hope to move on and build on the brewery and in our pubs, and we want to move forward.’ Drinkers might have thought they had got away with no duty increase on alcohol until the rises announced today.

They will affect venues from the Old England to the Farmer’s Inn, and from the Aurora to the Cosmopolitan.

‘If there had been duty increases, both local and imported price rises would have been higher,’ said Mr Daubeney.
