With their top two, David Evans and Ian Furness, playing for only the second time this season, they were simply too strong.
Only Alexander Forbes’ Si Aziz won any games, going down 17-16 in a tight fifth after serving out at 14-13 up against Myles West.
The spectators’ treat was the game between Director of Squash David Evans and former pro Mike Hopkins.
Evans played a simple game, hitting hard straight and cross-court lengths, biding his time until Hopkins was out of position, then putting in the drop or boast to either sap his opponent’s strength or win the point outright.
Showing his usual tenacity, Hopkins covered a lot of court to retrieve these shots but ultimately his lack of training over the last year, and Evans’ great reach, was too much to overcome and Evans ran out the winner 15-12, 15-8 and finally a comfortable 15-1.
League leaders Ash Shopfitting consolidated their position beating All Sports 4-1.
Paul Frankland was the only winner for Ash, he was always comfortably in control, beating Mark Le Roux 3-0.
Steve Bishop played well to win the first game against Graeme Tanguy with some good controlled hard squash but Tanguy fought back and won 3-1.
In the final game Harriers again found the going too hard, losing 5-0 to Barmills.
The top three in Division II all won to maintain their positions.
Leaders OVs beat Apsley Road Garage 3-2 but picked up 18 points as the two losers each took two games off their opponents.
Nigel Johnson pulled back from a 2-1 deficit for OVs to level but Jon Le Maistre showed his increasing maturity, maintaining concentration to win the final game 15-12 for Apsley Road.
Junior Charles White was the other OV player to dig in and get something from his defeat, going down 3-2 to seasoned campaigner Patrick Ryan.
Second-placed Alexander Forbes Two outplayed Barclays, winning 4-1, Mike Landon taking the only point for Barclays after beating Gerard Gardner 3-2 in a see-saw battle.
In the final game Yo-Yo’s beat Bedell Cristin Two 4-1.
