The States Scrutiny Panel on waste say adopting a £25 million Canadian system of waste disposal could result in the Island being given a grant by the country’s government.

The panel, chaired by Senator Ted Vibert, are looking into the Island’s waste management system and the replacement of the Bellozanne incinerator.

They have been involved in discussions with Canadian waste management company Verno Limited who have been developing the technology for advanced high temperature plasma gasification plants with the help of export development grants from the Canadian government.

Verno’s Ivan Richardson told the panel that the company were keen to put a reference plant of up to 60,000 tons somewhere in Europe, but not in England, and had earmarked £7 million as a grant to enable this to happen.
