The Channel Islands Lawn Tennis Association’s Hugh Raymond said: ‘We’ve just had confirmation of both events, which will start the weekend of 8 October.

We were awarded the men’s tournament because the ladies event last year was so successful.

I’ve checked, and there are no men’s European events on at that time so we could have players from the British Davis Cup team taking part, perhaps.’ With so many players due to compete, all eight courts at Les Ormes will have to be running every day throughout the week, with the finals taking place during the second weekend, 15/16 October.

‘These tournaments are all played for ranking points and matchplay practice.

Coaches in all sports know that match practice is vital, and it’s no different for these tennis players,’ Raymond said.

He added: ‘We’ve had tremendous support again, from Education, Sport and Culture, and from Caversham.

We simply couldn’t host events like this without it.’
