‘No intention’ of axing Arts Trust

A chronology of the Opera House crisis given to all States Members last Tuesday contained minutes of an Education Committee meeting in September which included a discussion which the trust believe indicated that Education planned to get rid of them.

However, Senator Vibert says that the trust has read the minute out of context and that there was no suggestion at all of dissolving it.

‘We were referring to the financial relationship between the trust, the Opera House and the States,’ said the Senator.

‘The best we can say on the matter is that the committee was facing a crisis brought about by poor Opera House management and a complete lack of control over the board of directors by the shareholder – the Arts Trust.

‘There was no consideration of dissolving the trust in total.

Indeed, it is not something that Education can do.

It was a discussion about the Opera House crisis and about measures for more direct control of the Opera House finances.’
