Al fresco plan for the Arts Centre

Financed by CaféJAC, it is hoped that the joint venture between the Arts Centre and its catering franchisee will enliven the area through al fresco dining and outdoor entertainment.

The first phase would see the current windows of the Phillips Street venue replaced with French ones and awnings displaying both the Arts Centre’s and CaféJAC’s logos.

The next stage would be to create signage, including an LED screen which will show what is on offer at both the venue and the restaurant.

Then decking would be introduced as a temporary measure before, it is hoped, the pavement will be widened in the wake of sewerage works to improve public safety.

The final phase, if granted, would be the closure of Phillips Street to create a vibrant, pedestrianised dining and performance space.

The first phase has yet to be considered by the Planning Committee, but Arts Centre chairman Ray Banks said that both Planning and the Parish of St Helier were very much behind the plans.
