Choirs from five of the Island’s schools and a flute group from Beaulieu School have been selected to travel to the Birmingham Symphony Hall on 11 July to perform at the National Festival of Music for Youth.
The Celebrate Choir, made up of 55 ten to 13-year-olds from Beaulieu Convent, will be singing in the Symphony Hall for the second time this academic year.
They will be joined by Flautissimo, a flute trio of 15- to 17-year-olds, also from Beaulieu.
St Michael’s School and their choir of 70 students, aged between nine and 13 years, have also been chosen to sing in Birmingham.
The school hosted the first Music for Youth Regional Festival in the Channel Islands at the beginning of the year and it was there the six music groups from Jersey were selected to perform at the nationwide festival.
St Michael’s and Beaulieu will be joined by three more choirs from Jersey.
Jersey College for Girls Chamber Choir are singing a Jersey folk song in Norman French and a gospel song composed by pupil Maxine Galante, while the 52 nine to 11-year-olds in Jersey College for Girls Preparatory School Choir are adding some choreography for their performance of Mighty Mississippi.
31 11- to 18-year-olds from Victoria College Choir will also be performing.
The 50-strong Guernsey Youth Orchestra will appear alongside the students from Jersey.
The flautists, choirs and Guernsey orchestra will all compete for a place at the Music for Youth Schools Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in November.
