The Colomberie-based company has established an independent circular link between Rue des Prés and the JEC Powerhouse via its network operations centre in St Saviour.
The project, which has taken nearly 18 months to complete, is the largest investment in Jersey’s telecoms network infrastructure by an independent operator since Jersey Cable, which is now Newtel, built its cable broadband network seven years ago.
The former Jersey Cable network has been significantly upgraded and incorporated within the new fibre structure.
The new network has been laid across St Helier’s main business areas to allow for access points where Newtel can support and serve the broadband requirements of its customers.
It also allows Newtel to bypass the existing Jersey Telecom network.
