For the husband and wife team of Martin and Heather and their daughter Katie are all representing Jersey in the NatWest Island Games in water sports.
Martin is taking part in the sailing competition, and his wife will be the team manager, and daughter Katie (16) will be swimming – not behind them in the sea, but in the pool and hopefully winning medals in various distances and styles.
Heather said: ‘This is Martin’s third games at sailing and he is really looking forward to it.
I will not be sailing this time, but am the team manager.
‘However a lot of our attention is going to be on Katie as she has done extremely well to be selected for the games.
She is from the Jersey Swimming Club and is their only representative in the Jersey team, so has been training for the last three months with the Tigers.
‘She is up at 5 am and training before coming home and either revising or taking part in her GCSEs.
I really don’t think that there is another sport which puts as much training, effort and dedication in as the swimmers and I really hope they do well.’
