They were walking on grass at the foot of the Pinnacle Rock, just south of Grosnez, when they slipped and went over the edge at around 3.10 pm.
The police today confirmed that the father was a local man, who lived outside the Island and was home for a visit.
It is thought a member of the party, which included the child’s mother and sister, or another walker called 999.
