The cottage with 22 skiploads of rubbish

Housing president Deputy Terry Le Main revealed in the States last week that it had taken 22 skiploads of rubbish to clear gardens and land surrounding La Falaise.

The rubbish included furniture, bathroom suites, steel girders, trees, gardening equipment, televisions, fencing and half a Triumph Herald.

He said: ‘Because the cost has now gone over £10,000, the committee has agreed that it will recover every penny it has expended on cleaning it up.’ The name of the tenant was not disclosed in the House, but Richard Manning, who runs a tree-felling and rubbish removals business, was prepared to confirm that he had lived at La Falaise since 1988, moving recently to a new house in St Ouen.

He emphatically denies that the property had been left in a mess.
