John Boucheré said that when he went to give a statement at police headquarters on Monday he met another man who said that exactly the same thing had happened to him at the Weighbridge taxi rank five minutes earlier.
‘I don’t know what town is coming to.
It seems a dangerous place at night.
But I have said to my wife that we can’t stop going out just because there is a risk of this sort of thing happening again,’ he said.
Mr Boucheré (36), who lives in St Clement, got to the taxi rank with his wife at about 2.20 am on Sunday after a night out.The man who allegedly punched Mr Boucheré had fair hair in a long ponytail and was wearing either a black tuxedo or a suit.
The alleged attacker was said by police to be in his mid-thirties and have an English or local accent.
He is 6 ft tall with a stocky build and chubby face and is clean-shaven.
