Netball rivals ready for the new season

Convent only took the title on goal average and all the teams are aware of the importance of making a good start.

Changes to Convent’s Division I line-up are imminent as they lose Mary Blampied in defence.

However Jackie Norman will grace the court once more for the club after the birth of her son.

St Clement A welcome back star shooter Zoe Hotton as captain, and new arrival Calli Bushell plays her first season in the Island for St Clement alongside sister Jenna Meredith.

The departure of last year’s captain Shelby Wright has opened the door for up-and-coming youngster Zoe Hewlett who steps up from the B team.

Many more youngsters move up into St Clement B from the youth league along with new recruit from St Brelade Mandy Kenny.

The Division II teams remain closely matched with Convent C looking to go up after being relegated last season.

Convent D will present a youthful team with players coming out of the youth league, as will Accies A whose team will include Year 10 player Harriet Simon.

Accies will also be welcoming back shooter Wendy Hehoe and Francesca Pallot and Suzie Hill in defence.

JCG Old Girls will be looking to settle into their second season in Division II after a shaky start due to a shortage of players and an ever-changing line up.

The experience of running their own club for a year will ensure a more stable performance.

In Division III St Lawrence will field an almost completely new C team with captain Lorna Morris the only player from last year.

The team has had to reshuffle itself after losing players to university and through retirement from the sport.

The Netball Academy and Youth Development programme have enabled a much more confident group of youngsters to rise to the competition of playing in the Deutsche Bank League.
