Saints beaten by better side, says Trigg

They were beaten 4-0 by Bournemouth Poppies in England after falling behind to a 43rd minute spot-kick.

Three minutes after the break the Hampshire League side went 2-0 up – again from the spot.

And they were awarded another penalty in the 70th minute before adding a fourth ten minutes from time.

But St Peter manager Jon Trigg refused to criticise the referee.

‘One was for a push by our keeper Gareth Bayley and the others were for mis-timed tackles.

I’ve seen them not given but I don’t want to gripe – it would be wrong to criticise the referee and it would be disrespectful to a good Bournemouth side.

‘They were the better side and, to be honest, we didn’t play well.

It was very competitive on a difficult surface.

‘When we were 2-0 down we created a number of chances and then against the run of play we conceded another goal which ended the contest.

‘We looked slightly jaded from our midweek game against Scottish, but hopefully we can all learn from playing against better opposition and lift ourselves for a very important game against Grouville next Saturday.’ Dorset Cup, 2nd rnd: St Paul’s 4, Chobham Sports 1.
