Blair Hickman, the secretary of the Jersey Driving Instructors Association, said that all learners booking tests now would not be able to take their test until mid-January – at the earliest.
He said: ‘At the moment, learners are having to wait two months after they have passed their theory.
It is getting better now but because it’s coming up to Christmas it’s still busy.
‘The reason is that one of the examiners was off sick for six months.
There used to be three examiners, but one left about four years ago.
They are making cutbacks so that when people leave they just don’t replace them.
‘I think the examiner was sick at the beginning of the summer and with only one examiner left, the delay became a gradual knock-on effect.’
