MacKenzie Monserez, a year 13 pupil at Beaulieu School, spent a week shadowing Parish of St Helier finance director Andy Pemberton in June.
She was announced the winner of the scheme by IoD branch chairman John Henwood at a ceremony last week.
All 61 pupils were assessed on the strength of their initial interview, application letter and report, written after completion of the scheme.
A separate award went to the pupil who wrote the most impressive report.
MacKenzie, who is deputy head girl at Beaulieu and hopes to study international relations at university next year, had requested a placement in a political environment.
She was pleased to get the opportunity to see how the administration of the parish operated at the highest level.
‘I got to experience a lot of meetings, and basically followed whatever Mr Pemberton did.
I loved the political side of it, and enjoyed attending meetings with the Constable,’ she said.
In her report, MacKenzie said that the experience had motivated her to pursue her interest in politics, but made her sure that the world of finance was not for her.
