The Council of Ministers decided at its second meeting on Friday that a migration advisory group would be established to steer future policy and make decisions on applications that may fall outside clear policy guidelines.
The group, members of which will also include Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf, Housing Minister Terry Le Main and Environment Minister Freddie Cohen, will make decisions on ‘contentious, specific applications’.
‘These will be applications that do not sit easily within existing States policy.
The States made it clear that it wanted the Chief Minister to be responsible for this area of policy,’ he said.
Although the agenda for Friday’s meeting was not heavy and was expected to finish by 1 pm, the nine Ministers present did not complete the business until about 2 pm.
However, Senator Walker was upbeat and said he was encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by members of the newly elected team.
