Recycling is on the cards for 2006

Transport and Technical Services’ John Rive has been setting an example this week when card recycling banks were added to the department’s collection points for newspapers and aluminium cards.

Last year the Island recycled six tonnes of cards, which were shipped to the UK for pulping and re-use by the paper industry.

With Transport committed to persuading Islanders to recycle more materials and products as part of the States approved Solid Waste Strategy, Mr Rive said they were working in conjunction with HSBC to make sure that old Christmas cards were put to good use.

‘Why not start 2006 as we mean to go on by recycling old Christmas cards at one of our collection points,’ he said.

Newspaper collection points, or recycling banks, can be found at Les Quennevais shopping precinct, Rue des Prés trading estate, the Esplanade car park, Jersey Zoo, St Ouen’s parish depot, Bellozanne and La Collette and at branches of HSBC.
