I name this child…

It is said that everything comes back into fashion, and an examination of the register of Island births for 2005 shows that names are no exception.

Of just over 1,000 babies registered in St Helier last year, Thomas, Samuel and James were the most popular boys’ names, while Olivia and Lucy were the most common girls’ names.

With other popular names including Benjamin, Joshua, Alexander, Dylan, Ruben, Grace, Charlotte Emily and Amelia, the fashion is very much for names which would not have been out of place in generations gone by.

But not everyone has fallen into line with the the trend, because some of the more unusual names for boys were Blade, Summer, Darcy, Ocean, Ocean-Sky, Axel and Beau.
