The basic idea of the Hampshire-CI Sports Travel Partnership is for charter flights to be hired when Jersey and Guernsey rugby clubs have co-ordinated youth fixtures against Hampshire teams.
One of the CI clubs would travel, while the other plays at home, enabling the visiting Hampshire side to use the same aircraft, thus sharing costs.
Commerical partnership is still being sought by the group, which would allow the sponsor to develop their image within the region by association with the Hampshire Youth Cup and League competitions.
The group also agreed to approach the RFU to take a more realistic stance and support competition with Channel Islands teams.
The group is chaired by Nigel Metcalfe of the Jersey RFC Academy, with Paul Beckett (Winchester), David Parish (Guernsey) and Nigel Sellers (Trojans).
Any Island sports interested in taking up space on the charter aircraft can contact Nigel Metcalfe on 732620 or jnmetcalfe@hotmail.com.
The Jersey RFC Academy’s main sponsor is Moore Management.
