When the Solid Waste Strategy was debated by the States last year Members agreed that a new energy-from-waste plant was needed, but the decision on whether to build it at Bellozanne or La Collette was held over.
Ministers agreed yesterday that moving the operation to La Collette was the better option.
‘Subject to States approval and an environmental study, the best position for it looks to be La Collette,’ said Chief Minister Frank Walker.
‘There are cost advantages for La Collette because of the linkage to the JEC power station, the use of the chimney and quite possibly power generation opportunities which could both save money and generate additional income.’ Senator Walker added that there were other issues around the location of a composting plant, which might not be at the same location.
