Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf has received correspondence from the French-owned ferry company on its future intentions.
Although the Senator would not be drawn on the details of the communication from Sogestran – which owns Emeraude – he said ‘numerous new conditions’ had been laid down that he described as ‘challenging’.
When the Senator met senior Emeraude officials at the end of last year to discuss the company’s future after its withdrawal from the route in early December, Emeraude was not asking to be the sole operator on the St Malo route.
The Senator set the company a deadline of the end of January to give an indication of its future intentions after Emeraude said it would not return to operating until the summer at the earliest.
