Why the parishes have speeding fine cash in their sights

The States agreed yesterday to let the 12 parishes keep the £30,000 revenue from the fines they administer, rather than pass it all on to the Crown.

But the head of the Constables’ Committee, the Constable of St Ouen, Ken Vibert, said that the parishes would not be using speed traps as ‘a cash cow’.

He said it was ‘just not an option’ for the proceeds from fines to pay the expenses of the honorary police.
