However, it has been confirmed that it is unlikely that any of the pollution will come towards Jersey due to the wind directions over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the French authorities are not ruling out the possibility that another ship dumped oil in the area, thinking that the pollution would be blamed on the foundered Ece.
Pictures have been taken from the air by the French authorities above where the Ece is lying on the seabed in 70 metres of water.
Images have also been taken by a miniature French naval submarine which show so far unidentified liquids leaking from several points on the hull.
Cherbourg authorities have yet to decide whether to attempt to contain quantities of surface oil from the Ece or to disperse it with chemicals.
