Call for pub price inquiry

Senator Mike Vibert, who was responsible for the States agreeing to increase duty on beer to pay for TV licences for the over-75s, wants the competition authority to look into prices charged by pub groups CI Hospitality – which owns Jersey Brewery pubs – and Randalls.

The Senator said the actual duty increases on beers contributed between 2.4p and 3.6p to the price of a pint.

And he is consequently at a loss to explain how the CI Hospitality group can justify rises of between 8p and 14p a pint as a result.
