Island Site plans now include granite

Two weeks ago designs for a modern office block were turned down because of a perceived lack of Jersey relevance, but the introduction of a granite fa?ade has resulted in the go-ahead being given by the planning applications panel yesterday.

Environment Minister Freddie Cohen said he was pleased the design had been revised.

‘It is a completely different external treatment,’ he said.

‘It is very modern and relevant to its surroundings.’ Different colours of granite will be used, two in shades of Jersey pink and one in Guernsey blue, the same as that used in the neighbouring old abattoir buildings.

The terracotta panels on the original drawing have been replaced by a rough granite finish on the ground floor and polished granite on the upper floors.

The application has been made by Islands Development Ltd and the building designed by architects Axis Mason.
