Pool:Juniors the best hope for Euro progress

Their three matches today against France, Wales and Scotland will now determine whether they reach the semis.

After beating France, 10-5, the Channel Islands junior team could also reach the semis, depending on how they fare against Scotland and England.

The youngsters made their mark early on in their match against the home nation yesterday, with Jersey’s 12-year-old Ryan Shaw winning his game with a great black against Nicolas Herbert while fellow Islander Dane Jenning had a total clearance in his match against Quentin Federico.

Guernsey’s Jess de la Haye, however, is the boy in form with seven wins from his nine frames to date and tour manager Paul Bolton believes that if any of his teams will reach a final, it will almost certainly be the juniors.

‘They’ve a 50-50 chance although the England squad, who are favourites, have been together for the last five years and look easily the strongest team here.

Even so, as long as they keep their losses down to a minimum, I’m sure our juniors can make further progress.’ The ladies, however, are out of contention for a semi-final place after going down 13-2 to France.
