Thankfully, this time it was only the cancellation of a warm-up event, and not injury or illness which has dogged the team in recent weeks.

With Tim Rogers still battling to be fit for the 18 March date, Paul Clements and Scott Pitcher were hoping to sharpen up in the Luke Harrop Memorial in Southport, Queensland, but strong winds and heavy rain caused the race to be cancelled.

The event would have pitched the pair against Hamish Carter, the reigning Olympic champion and a number of other top Games competitors Jersey’s triathlon team manager Gary Jones said: ‘Given the weather conditions, the benefits from competing would have been marginal, with a high risk of injury, with less than two weeks to go to our main race objective.’
