Extending the existing site or creating a deep-water site to create a new harbour terminal at the end of La Collette are among the options.
The need for a new reclamation site was identified in the Draft Strategic Plan published ten days ago and will be part of a development plan for the area to the east of the Albert Pier.
On Thursday the Council of Ministers agreed to fund a £200,000 initial study into the area between the Albert Pier and La Collette to cover background research, traffic flows and strategic options.
