The groups are angry that a gun emplacement (C21) on the corner of Castle Street and the Esplanade has been dismantled to make way for the new Tourism office, despite previous assurances to the CIOS that it would be preserved in situ.
The developers have promised to rebuild it, but not in the exact original location.
In a joint letter published today concerning the repositioning of the gun, the Société Jersiaise, Save Jersey’s Heritage, the Council for the Protection of Jersey’s Heritage and the National Trust for Jersey say that Island Developments Ltd should apologise for failing to comply with planning restrictions to protect listed buildings.
