The director of the Jersey Heritage Trust, Jon Carter, said in fairness to the Gorey Boat Owners Association he had not had the opportunity to discuss the various options for a deep-water marina with up to 500 berths, but from a heritage and ecological point of view there were important issues at stake.
‘The site is right against the Ramsar site and clearly any development would have a huge impact on the setting of the castle as seen from the sea, which is of enormous historic importance.’ His concerns were shared by the Société Jersiaise, who had also not seen the plans, though chairman Francis Corbet was more concerned about the impact on Gorey Pier.
‘I can’t see the project going ahead without major disturbance to the existing harbour and to the road network which approaches the pier,’ he said.
