After the 26-year-old full-time player breezed past her first round opponent, she today saw off the Seychelles’ Julliette Ah-Wan 21-10, 21-4 to go into the last 16 of the event along with Jersey’s Solenn Pasturel.

Pasturel beat Australia’s Erin Carroll 21-10, 21-16.

‘I’m enjoying my badminton at the moment and have played two really good matches so far.

I want to go right to the end in this because there’s no point aiming not to finish the winner.’ Cann now meets Charmaine Reid of Canada while Pasturel faces Mew Wong of Malaysia for a place in the quarter finals.

Gavin Carter has joined fellow team mate Clive Dunford in being knocked out in the first round.

He fell to New Zealand’s Geoffrey Bellingham 21-8, 21-8.

He was also involved in Jersey’s mixed doubles exit from the tournament with Lucy Burns.

The pairing lost 21-10, 21-16 in a close encounter with South Africa’s Christoffel Dednam and Kerry-Lee Harrington.
