Only weeks after the publication of a damning report on conditions and overcrowding at the prison, it has emerged that Senator Kinnard is now defending herself against a Royal Court action.
The case of Michael Charles Brown is brought on his behalf by Deputy Viscount Peter de Gruchy, who was appointed Mr Brown’s curator under the Mental Health laws.
Mr Brown filed an order of justice with the Royal Court earlier this year and claims that on 14 January 2003, the then 38-year-old was the victim of an unprovoked grave and criminal assault at La Moye prison.
His physical and mental injuries are said, in the claim document, to have been ‘severe’.
