Mr Vibert believes the recently published States property plan, including buildings which might be sold off, provides an opportunity to examine whether any might be suitable for such a swap.
His comments come shortly after news was announced in the JEP that owner Trevor Hemmings might be willing to return part of the Plémont headland to its natural state for public use if he is allowed to build 30 houses on the south side of the site.
Mr Vibert said that was a wonderful gesture on the owner’s part, but he and other parishioners who had attended meetings in the past about previous proposals for that site did not want to see any houses built there – even on the south side which was a green field area.
The Constable said he believed the way forward was for the States to consider negotiating a land swap with Mr Hemmings with the possibility of the whole site at Plémont going into public ownership.
