Regional newspaper reporters and travel agents tested the service, which will start on Saturday 27 May, when they flew to Jersey with Atlantic Express for the day.

Economic Development public relations manager Mike Tait said the group spent the day at Elizabeth Castle and the event had been a huge success.

‘We wanted to give them an interesting experience that would stand out,’ he said.

‘They were very impressed.

There is a real sense that this route is not a fly-by-night one.

This is a crucially important area to give us access to the north west of London, including Hertfordshire and Essex.’ Assistant Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean said the link would give Islanders a major gateway into the UK for European low cost airlines.

He said: ‘Stansted is now a major hub for lower cost airline models that are responsible for large volumes of the leisure market and significant levels of business traffic.’
