The ministerial registration and listing advisory group will replace the existing Jersey heritage advisory panel which was formed in 2003.
Membership has been widened to include representatives of the Jersey Heritage Trust, the Société Jersiaise, the National Trust for Jersey, Save Jersey’s Heritage, the Channel Islands Occupation Society and the Association of Jersey Architects, as well as individuals with specialist interests in architecture and heritage.
Senator Freddie Cohen, a past vice-chairman of the Heritage Trust, said he wanted to draw on the significant pool of knowledge that existed in the Island.
‘I want to be able to take advantage of this and to extend the membership of the existing advisory panel,’ he said.
‘When I am making decisions about changes to the Island’s Historic Buildings Register I want to make sure that I am doing so on the best information available.
I already receive excellent advice from the Heritage Trust, which maintains the register on our behalf, but I want to embrace the huge wealth of knowledge that exists in the wider community and secure independent advice from this new group.’
