Accompanied by their coaches, they will be hoping to improve on previous performances – or to make a satisfactory debut in the competition.
Athletics development officer Andrew Winnie is upbeat about the athletes’ chances.
‘As far as I’m concerned there will be a good number of Hampshire champions in the squad, and plenty of medals,’ he said.
The Jersey Spartan AC squad, sponsored by Royal Bank of Canada, is a mix of youth and experience, with some youngsters travelling for the first time to a county championship and others having competed at this level for several years.
‘We have a couple of U17s who are newcomers to athletics going with us,’ said Winnie.
‘Some of the younger ones competed in the Sportshall event recently, but this will be a first county meet for them.
