States salaries: 260 are on £70,000-plus

Figures on public sector employee pay were released today by the Treasury to accompany the Financial Reports and Accounts for 2005.

They show that 267 States workers – or one in 24 of the States workforce – earned a total salary, pensions and perks package worth more than £70,000 in 2005, and that up to five public sector employees took more than £200,000.

Deputy chief executive to the States Mick Pinel confirmed yesterday that the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, Deputy Bailiff Michael Birt and Attorney General William Bailhache were the top three earners on between £210,000 and £229,000, and that Solicitor General Stéphanie Nicolle earned between £150,000 and £170,000.
