No go for Poland

The timing to enter is not right at present as under Combination rules new clubs must submit entries before March in the same year in which they wish to join.

Poland were successful in getting a team together, and they won many friends in the recent inter-community Blackhorse Offshore World Cup tournament, won by Portugal.

Polish player Jaroslaw Mlonka said: ‘We want to put a team together that is sure; but the timing is not right for us to start next season.

‘There are a lot of Polish people in the Island and I’m confident we can get 20-22 players of a good quality to play in the league.

There are lots of things to sort out and we will need people to help us.

There is a lot of talking and organising to be done and we have to raise the finance to take part.’ Combination president Tim Darwin said: ‘Jersey Nomads were in a similar position several years ago when they formed their club.

‘We helped them as much as possible.

We encouraged them to play friendlies and gain experience by putting things in place and then they were accepted into the league.

‘It’s not just a case of putting a team together there are many other things that have to be done too.

A club structure and development plan needs to be in place too as well as looking for finance.

‘A Polish team would be welcome in the Combination and if they contact us I’m confident we can help them achieve their goal.’
