The former UK Social Security Minister and Solicitor General was appointed as Jersey’s new link to the UK government in the reshuffle earlier this month.
She is the sixth person to fill the role in six years, following (in chronological order) Michael Wills, Yvette Cooper MP, Rosie Winterton MP, David Lammy MP and Baroness Ashton of Upholland.
Mrs Harman (55) said: ‘The constitutional relationship between the UK and the Crown Dependencies works well and the relationships are positive and constructive.
The unwritten nature of the relationships allows them to develop in line with progress and world changes.
‘The UK welcomes the promotion of the Crown Dependencies as models of well-functioning, small democracies and supports the principle of the Crown Dependencies developing a positive international personality and has a role to play in assisting.’
